Defense Mechanism – 1st Line of Defense

Defense Mechanism – 1st Line of Defense

The body has many levels of defense mechanism built to protect itself from invaders or pathogens like bacteria, fungus, virus and parasites.

There are many ways or channels through which these pathogens can enter our body and the 1st line of defense is built to safeguard us from those attacks. This acts as a mechanical barrier.

So the 1st line of defense consists of:

  • Skin
  • Nose, Mouth, Eyes, Nose, Throat, Gut, Vagina, Penis and Lungs – Tears, Mucus and Saliva
  • Lungs – Celia
  • Stomach – Acidic Environment (PH)
  • Urine Flow
  • External surfaces – Defensines and Immunogloblin

So it’s very important that if any of these defenses are compromised for some reason the pathogens then enter through them into the body.
